Loudoun County Fire and Rescue officials said Sterling Volunteer Fire Company firefighter Trevor Brown was killed in last night's explosion at a gas leak call.
Brown, 45, was a member of Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue since 2016.
"Please keep Firefighter Brown’s family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, and we ask that the family’s privacy be respected," the department shared in a statement.
Officials said 13 first responders and two civilians were injured by the explosion, which happened after firefighters responded to a report of a gas leak outside the Silver Ridge Drive home.
Four first responders remain hospitalized Saturday morning.
In a statement earlier today, Loudoun County fire officials said firefighters discovered a leak involving a 500-gallon propane tank before the explosion, which happened about an hour after firefighters responded.
The blast resulted in multiple mayday calls after they were trapped by debris.
Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the blast.
